He was the Senior Stylist at a leading Mayfair salon in London and was recruited by leading international companies such as L'Oreal and Wella to participate as a platform artist. Accompanying his commitment for in-depth understanding of the nature of hair and hair care science, he took up further academic disciplines and underwent proficient training in the field of Trichology, which incorporates the field of hair and scalp health.

In 1983 Michael Bernstein satisfied the requirement for membership with the renowned Institute of Trichologists in the UK and was appointed a professional member trichologist. For the next few years, Michael Bernstein managed the Trichology Clinic run by the Glemby chain in Selfridges of London. He was responsible for developing programs for the prevention of hair loss and for maintaining hair and scalp health throughout their centers in the UK.

In the late 1980s, he emigrated to America and was General Manager of the Cristophe Salon in Beverly Hills in charge of advertising, marketing, personnel and operations. Wishing to return to the Trichology field, Michael Bernstein joined Aida Thibiant as their resident, expert Trichologist. During this time, he was voted “Best Scalp Doctor” in the Los Angeles Magazine.

When Jose Eber opened his new salon on Two Rodeo Drive, Michael Bernstein was offered the opportunity to open and manage the new Trichology Clinic attending to Jose's celebrity clientele. Michael Bernstein appeared on television shows with Jose Eber doing his famous makeovers.

In an effort to do more research in the field of hair loss, Michael Bernstein joined the staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Office Towers as the Senior Consultant Trichologist. During this time, he also lectured at UCLA and at the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.

In 1997 after being involved on a part-time basis with the international company Svenson, Michael Bernstein was invited to be R&D Director of the Asian market.
